The first helicopter … well sort of….the giant blades and engine would provide lift. The pilot would release the holding lock lever sort of blowing the Aircraft off the takeoff pole and therefor becoming the first aircraft to take off straight up. Landing proved to be problematic, and after many failed attempts conventional landing on a runway was standardized . The Smith and Wes repeating arms Co. helicopter never achieved production, only manufactured as a prototype in 1931. This beautiful plane was unknown by the aviation world due to it being “Super Duper-Top Secret .
This historic aircraft was memorialized with this scale Steel Sculpture complete with miniature launching engine and take off pole. The Artist posed for the Pilot image and was said to be a “ little “ transvestite not to belittle him. With retractable Landing gear and rotating props the airplane can be removed from base to “park “ on the ground making moving much easier.
